Using Assure and related services
These terms govern your use of the Assure WordPress plugin, optional paid compliance packs, and related ncdLabs Assure services (pack activation, optional browser verification, and optional Google OAuth proxy). Site-wide website terms are at ncdlabs.com/terms.
Who we are
Assure is operated by Lou Grossi / ncdLabs (“ncdLabs”, “we”, “us”). Contact: lou@ncdlabs.com.
The free plugin
The Assure plugin available from WordPress.org (and any build you install yourself) is licensed under GPL-2.0-or-later. Your rights to run, study, share, and modify the plugin software follow that license. These terms do not replace the GPL for the Free plugin code itself.
Assure provides technical discovery, evaluation, enforcement helpers, evidence, and reporting. It does not provide legal advice and does not certify that your organization is legally compliant with GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, or any other law or framework.
Optional compliance packs
Paid framework catalogs (for example HIPAA or SOC 2) are sold separately as encrypted .assure-pack files.
They are not included in the WordPress.org download. Purchase is billed annually through Stripe Checkout on
the Assure store.
- A pack unlock key is for the licensed site count stated at purchase (typically one site unless you buy an agency/library plan).
- Activation may send your unlock key, framework identifier, and site URL to ncdLabs to verify purchase and bind the license.
- Packs may stop working for a site if the subscription is cancelled, refunded, or the license is revoked for abuse or non-payment.
- Pack content is proprietary catalog data licensed for use with Assure; it is not a grant of ownership or an unlimited redistribution right.
Optional hosted services
When you enable them, Assure may use:
- Pack activation API on ncdlabs.com — to verify purchases and bind a license to a site.
- Browser verification — hosted checks against your site for consent and related scenarios.
- Google OAuth proxy — only if you connect Google Analytics or Tag Manager and have not configured your own OAuth client.
Details of what is sent and when are in the Assure privacy notice. Third-party services you connect (for example Google or Stripe) have their own terms.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Abuse activation, download, or verification APIs (sharing unlock keys beyond your license, automated scraping, or attempts to bypass licensing).
- Use Assure or related services to attack, scan, or interfere with systems you do not own or administer.
- Misrepresent Assure output as a legal certification or attorney opinion.
Accounts, purchases, and refunds
Checkout and billing are processed by Stripe. Payment details are handled by Stripe under Stripe’s terms. For billing questions or refund requests, email lou@ncdlabs.com. Refund eligibility depends on the purchase and applicable law; unused time on a yearly subscription is not automatically refunded after fulfillment of a downloadable pack.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep ncdLabs Assure services available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change features, pricing, or these terms; the “Last updated” date on this page will change when we do. Continued use of paid packs or hosted APIs after a change means you accept the updated terms for those services.
Disclaimer and limitation
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Assure and related services are provided “as is” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. ncdLabs is not liable for decisions you make based on Assure findings, for third-party outages (WordPress.org, Stripe, Google, hosting, and similar), or for indirect or consequential damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amounts you paid ncdLabs for Assure packs in the twelve months before the claim.
Privacy
See the Assure privacy notice and the ncdLabs site privacy policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction apply.
